My name is Karina Todd and I am a 48 year old mother of four children.
I have spent most of my adult life on countless quick-fix diets and eating programmes, trying to lose the excess weight which had plagued me since my early twenties.
Like many women, I got stuck in a cycle of wanting to lose the weight quickly - trying to stick to a strict diet - losing some weight - feeling hungry and bored - going back to my usual unhealthy eating habits - piling on the weight (and more!) again....and so the cycle continued for over 20 years!
Then in early 2018, things changed! Having spent years obsessing about what I 'could' and 'couldn't' eat and falling off (and jumping back onto) the 'I'm being good today' wagon, I suddenly realised that the secret to losing weight, getting fit and improving my overall health and vitality lay inside me the whole time.
I had the power to change and it was time that I took responsibility for my own health and wellbeing and started to make some positive lifestyle choices.
I finally realised that the way to achieve my weightloss and wellness goals, once and for all, would involve as much of a workout for my mind as for my body. To succeed, I would also have to ensure that while I was feeding my body nutritious, healthy food, I would also have to adopt a healthy, positive outlook throughout the process.
And so my journey began! I started to research the whole topic of healthy eating in an attempt to demystify what has become a very complicated, confused topic. I decided to train in Weight Loss Coaching, Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques. I realised that our wellness is so much more than just weight management and began to explore the significance of the mind-body link in relation to our overall wellbeing. I had experienced its effect myself many times during years of 'not being in the right frame of mind to go on a diet.'
Wanting to get back to basics, I followed a simplified approach to a positive lifestyle of eating healthy, nutritious, filling food and taking part in the type of exercise that I began to enjoy. It was all about making choices that suited me and not being told what I should or shouldn't eat. For the first time in over 20 years I felt liberated and empowered - I started to make healthy food choices because I wanted to and not because I had to. I started taking part in the type of exercise that I enjoyed and generally just started to take better care of myself.
Without counting a single calorie, writing a daily food journal or becoming a slave to the bathroom scales, I managed to lose over 4 stone. I have also come to appreciate the positive effects of regular exercise and feel healthier, physically stronger and more energetic than I have for years! I have improved my mental and emotional wellbeing in the process and now realise that this is what had been missing for all those years - the knowledge that wellness is so much more than weight management.
It's not just about what we eat but how we exercise, what we think and how we feel about ourselves as women.
Many people have asked what my secret is to losing weight and that made me think... actually I have lost weight and become fitter MY WAY! I have taken all the knowledge I have gained over the last 15 years; ignored a lot of it, used some of it and developed a system that works. And this is the system that I would like to share with all women.
It really is time to free ourselves from the drudgery of diets and slavery of the scales!
It is time to make our own choices, to do it our way and to learn to love ourselves more!
It is time for a new no nonsense approach to Whole Woman Wellness - so, here's to health and happiness for every woman!
